Well... it's been a long time since we sat down and considered what we've been up to. Steve finished his classes today - he is now officially done with all but the last "endodontics camp" and will be a third year dental student in less than a month. WOO HOO!!! I (Jen) am still wrapping up classes (I am actually in class now, and obviously not really taking very good notes, but at 9 pm what can you say). Finals in about 2 weeks for me - not nearly soon enough, then right back to class the next week.
Steve will be doing more research this summer into the effects of exercise on bones, using the lovely lab mice and the little mouse "treadmill". Not the most exciting work, but it will land us an all expenses paid trip (for him) to San Antonio in 2008 to present his research at the American Assoication of Dental Research conference. Unfortunately the poor little mice will have to be sacrificed to make this a reality, but it is a price Steve is willing to pay.
I am still plugging away at the probate court and trying to stay out of trouble, which seems to be hard to do lately. We seem to have lots of interesting twists every week. Yesterday we finally reached the fully staffed level, although fully staffed is still way understaffed. We now have all desks full, all hands on deck, and will soon be running full steam ahead - which will require a LOT of training, but the staff I work with is GREAT about that.
Maize is still alive (although after destroying my winter's worth of work growing geraniums from cuttings for Grandma Lorraine it was questionable). She was the recipient of an "easter basket" full of dog treats and bones, but she took one look at it and ran as fast as she could the other way. She did eventually come around to the whole idea and has since cleaned the basket out pretty well. She also has developed a new habit of hiding in the linen closet (or the nearest shower) for all of our recent spring storms. Needless to say, she keeps us laughing.
Best - Jen
