Day Two:After the misadventures of the hike on day one, we decided to take the subway up to the National Zoo. We tried to get there early to avoid the field trips, but there were still a lot of children running everywhere. We were able to see the baby panda and most of the animals, but in many exhibits there was only one animal and some had no animals. After a long morning at the Zoo, we took the subway to Arlington National Cemetary and then finished the afternoon with a walk to the Jefferson Memorial.
Highlights:
At the National Zoo we found the eagle statue, which Jen's parents had taken her picture in front of when she was a pre-schooler.

Steve got to get up close and personal with a golden pheasant in the bird cage.

We discovered that Arlington Cemetary has more than just the traditional small white tombstones, and explored the many large and ornate tombstones belonging to the generals, admirals, and other important officers buried at Arlington.

We watched the changing of the guard at Arlington Cemetary's Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and visited the Eternal Flame at the Kennedy's grave.

We were able to relax for a few minutes along the Potomac and watch the crew teams practice.
We visited the Jefferson Memorial
and enjoyed the views of the White House, Lincoln Memorial, and Washington Memorial as the sun was beginning to set.We visited the National Holocaust Memorial Museum, which was very sad and moving but definitely worth seeing.
Lowlights:
I had a blister from Day 1 on her heel from my tennis shoes, so she decided to wear sandals on Day 2, even though Steve warned me.
I ended up with two more blisters. We also both became very motion sick riding the subway right after lunch at a burrito place.
